I think it may be time...

That I knuckled down and put some effort into my career. But the big question that has to be answered before I can do that is this...

"What career do I want?" And, to be perfectly honest, I have no idea.

Should you lot out there feel you have an idea what career path I should take, please drop in a small comment stating your suggestion and, if possible, your reasons for suggesting it.

With your skills:-
Write a book
Start a career in motivational speaking. Pick any subject and you seem to have spome insight into it anyway!
or, whilst you think about it, you could just work in a bar somewhere, maybe the local bowling club?

Salagatle!

Bugger the career - dump your job, rent out your flat and go see the world. Then write a book about it when you come back. I'd buy it in a minute.

I'm with Stuart on this one...start again where it all (supposedly) started...Africa...then work your way out from there.

Alternatively, you've been threatening for years to do stand-up comedy...go to it.

Fucking Hurrah! (sounds of trumpets, singing, horns etc). At last you've realised it's about time you got your ass in gear. Time for words from me then...

1)The stand up thing. Your one of my fave people in the world. As you well know. However I don't think you're ready for this yet. I mean not to piss on your parade or anything but you need more confidence and you lack that just now. It's a fact else you'd be doing it already.

2)Writing a book. Yep I can see this. A definite option for you. However is it likely to happen while you're life is how it is now? I don't think so.

3) So what to do? Firstly tell BBC to ram it. Why the fuck you waste yourself in that place is beyond me. Yes you need a job but fucking hell jobs like that are ten a penny and you'd get more respect and money for your effort elsewhere anyway. If you really want to come back I'll keep your seat warm for you! Get the flat rented out. Take your last months pay and buy a flight ticket and a lap top (feck I'll lend you mine!). Head to SA and spend some time with Steve, chill, sort yourself out and move on. You have friends all over the place. I'm sure more than a few will put you up. Write your notes. Keep a diary. Experience new things. Write up your notes in new places and get the book started. Pick up bar work along the way. It'll supplement the income from the rent. When you're done head on home. We'll all be waiting!House is waiting, barman always required somewhere so you'd get an income. Use your experiences to write screeplays, sketches, a book, stand up, whatever you like! Send writing to publishers, magazines, tv companies, comedians, etc. Await responses and take it from there. You've got feck all to lose but your boredom. It's all still here when you get back. Do it now while you're young enough and have no ties. What's the worst that can happen? You might need to work when you get back instead of turning up and watching tv all day?? Lol! If I had no kids I'd be off like a shot! What are you waiting for???? I'll write your resignation letter for you! Go before they punt you anyways...big knife heading for back as we speak me thinks!

Rant over. Big Breath. Send me a postcard. Love Ya!

Ask yourself Ross - where (and when) are you happiest in your daily life? I know someone who is happy to keep the 'day job' and pursue their dreams outside of that...and I know someone who has given 'it' all up to go and pursue their dreams...and I couldn't honestly say that one is happier than the other. Good luck with whatever you decide - you have a lot of family and friends who wish you well, no matter what...and that is precious.
